Precision Health Cloud

We understand that optimal treatment and drug discovery depends on uncovering relationships within data from many different sources. However, current healthcare IT systems do not democratize data, hindering research and discovery.

The LifeOmic Precision Health Cloud (PHC) was created to break down the silos that exist between current systems.

The PHC can integrate genomic, EHR, imaging, demographic and any other data set. It indexes all of this data so you can effortlessly combine and visualize it either as part of ad hoc exploration or within applications such as clinical decision support. Additionally, machine learning models can uncover the most nuanced but important relationships.

The PHC is a platform in the most revolutionary sense. It is easy to use the PHC to connect to existing visualization tools, create new applications, or explore data directly. It supports integration with any language and framework including R, Python, Swift, Objective-C, Android, Javascript, and more. It seamlessly integrates with the analysis and visualization tools you use today such as Jupyter Notebook, R Studio, Tableau, Spotfire and more.

You can even collocate your microservices and Docker containers to enable the best performance and security.

The PHC is a cloud platform that is secure and virtually infinitely scalable. Our zero-trust, security first architecture is more secure than on-premise systems. Your data is always yours and under your control.

The Precision Health Cloud is HIPAA compliant, HITRUST CSF Certified and GDPR compliant.

The LifeOmic® Precision Health Cloud (PHC) is a secure, reliable and scalable platform that enables researchers and clinicians to develop and deliver Precision Medicine.

The PHC was architected by the team that created one of the most complex cloud applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS). It was developed as a cloud first model, using the most secure, scalable design paradigms including a zero trust security model and serverless computing.

The PHC is a true platform, enabling our customers to store, combine and analyze data with any set of tools. We also deliver several key applications built on top of the PHC such as our Subject Viewer.

The Benefits of Microservices and Serverless Computing

Microservice-oriented architectures cost effectively deliver virtually limitless scalability and high security cost effectively.

Each unit of functionality is packaged as its own service. Serverless computing is used extensively so the microservice can be created, do its work in parallel and be shut down. This delivers:

  • Cost effectiveness – you are not paying for resources you are not using.
  • Scalability and performance – Microservices can be created in parallel delivering the best performance and scalability.
  • Security – Since each microservice is decoupled, if there ever was a security issue, it would be isolated to only one microservice thus the risk of information leakage would be drastically reduced. Additionally, transient serverless computing means that patching (the lack of which is the most common cause of exploits) happens much more quickly.

The Subject Viewer application provides a configurable view of patients’ or subjects’ longitudinal history, combining clinical and genomic data to better facilitate care. By looking across subjects, both current and past, you can truly develop and provide the best treatment options.

The Subject Viewer was designed to be customizable with the ability to add, remove and build new graphs and widgets. Additionally, media files such as images, videos, documents and other files can be easily opened from within the Subject Viewer.

Subject Viewer | Precision Health Cloud

The Insights application enables analyzing and visualizing subject data using custom graphs. Insights displays the results of aggregate data analysis and machine learning.

Insights allows you to query across multiple patients, from small cohorts to entire populations, to easily understand a variety of attributes and trends. The ability to customize queries enables ad hoc exploration of groups of patients with no software development or complex query languages. Our easy-to-use, graphical interface provides clear data visuals. It allows anyone, even those without a bioinformatics background, to analyze and intuitively understand their data.

As with all components of the Precision Health Cloud, the Insights module is customizable and extendable to support your organization and projects.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to Automatically Transcribe Faxes and Scanned Documents

Data ingestion, especially from unstructured sources, is a headwind to realize the advantages of precision health. Unfortunately, healthcare is fraught with poor quality printed documents and faxes that need to be structured to be actionable. Typically, they are either scanned into an EMR as a file attachment or even worse, end up in a filing cabinet.

The Precision Health Cloud, through our Artificial Intelligence (AI) Optical Character Recognition technology (OCR), can automatically turn faxes and scanned medical documents into structured data.

This technology is easy to use, cost-effective and highly accurate. Even the messiest and illegible documents can be interpreted. Procedures, observations, medications and interventions are automatically highlighted. The contents of the document can easily be searched. Once the data is structured, it is converted to FHIR resources that can be used in the Precision Health Cloud as well as integrated back into your EMR systems.

Surveys and Patient Reported Outcomes

Surveys are a key component in patient-reported outcomes (PRO or ePRO) to support both research and clinical applications. It is important to have a platform that makes creating, managing and delivering surveys easy for researchers and clinicians. It is also critical to have a platform that makes it easy for patients to find and complete surveys – wherever and whenever. Finally, analyzing the survey responses, especially in conjunction with other data from the patient, gives researchers and clinicians the tools they need to accelerate research and deliver better patient outcomes.

The Precision Health Cloud supports even the most complex surveys with conditional branching. The interactive survey builder makes it easy to create and maintain the surveys.

The Precision Health Cloud supports the following survey features:

  • Cloud-based infrastructure, no installation required

Informed consent is critical to any research project. Consent is required for any human subjects research project. The consent must be delivered in an easy to read format that clearly outlines the purpose of the research, procedures, costs and remuneration, alternatives to participation, any risks, benefits, time, the potential for placebo placement, withdrawal process and consequences.

In addition to creating the informed consent documentation, the researcher must manage the participant review and signature process as well as any revocation, or withdrawal of consent. Traditionally, this has been done using paper consent or cumbersome, disconnected software systems.

The Precision Health Cloud’s FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11 compliant eConsent streamlines the informed consent process by enabling researchers to easily create and manage the consent process all from within the PHC. All consents are automatically associated with a patient in the central repository, so information about who has consented to which studies co-exists with additional clinical, survey, sequencing, imaging and any other data in the Precision Health Cloud.

You can create the informed consent with a simple graphical editor. Additionally, you can choose whether you require a button, typed or mouse / finger signature.

Once created, for unsupervised consent, you can invite individuals to the project with the push of a button. They will receive an email where they can review and sign the consent.

For supervised consent, where a researcher or medical professional reviews the consent in person with the participant, the supervisor can walk the participant through the consent process on a computer, tablet or phone.

The Precision Health Cloud supports the following informed consent features:

  • Unsupervised and supervised consent workflows
  • Easily manage the consent forms including versioning and updates
  • Invite participants directly via the Precision Health Cloud
  • Dashboard to see consent status and time / date stamps and audit trail
  • Management of consent withdrawal
  • Consent templates that can be easily modified for your specific project
  • FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11 Compliant
  • Support for mobile, tablets and desktop web as well as fully integrate into LIFE Extend
Informed Consent

We know security is your top priority. Ours too. The Precision Health Cloud’s eConsent can be configured to meet United States (U.S.) Federal Regulation Title 21, Chapter 1, Part 11 – commonly referred to as 21 CFR Part 11. You can rest assured the document security and authenticity are adequately maintained as part of our electronic records process.
